Joan M. Richter graduated summa cum laude from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from University at Buffalo School of Law. During law school, she served on the Buffalo Law Review where she published an article in the Buffalo Environmental Law Journal.  

Ms. Richter has over 20 years of legal experience in the insurance defense field. Prior to joining Hagelin Spencer, she worked as Staff Counsel for GEICO Insurance where she handled hundreds of automobile negligence matters and tried cases to verdict.

Ms. Richter is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, The Western District of New York, US Bankruptcy Court and the State of North Carolina.  

She focuses her legal practice in insurance defense litigation, automobile negligence, and premises liability.

In addition to her work at Hagelin Spencer, she serves on the Board of Directors with the Western New York Defense Trial Lawyers Association, 100 Club of Buffalo and the Buffalo Police Explorers.
